May Dancer of the Month

Emma PerformanceEmma Gunn, Bdancewear’s Dancer of the Month for May, is 15 years old and a high school student from Winter Garden, Florida. She dances at the Central Florida Dance Center. Emma’s life revolves around school, dance, family and friends. She says that she has known she wanted to have a career as a professional dancer since she was 5 years old. According to Emma, she has a crazy energetic personality and that is what keeps her going from 5 am until 11:30 pm everyday tackling school and dance simultaneously. Her schedule can be crazy and not many people understand why she is so busy all the time, but she says that she wouldn't have her life any other way.

Emma got started in dance when her mom put her in dance when she was 3 years old because she was constantly running and jumping around the house. Her mom said she had too much energy so she enrolled me in ballet and a tap/jazz combo class. Emma loved it so much that she wanted to keep going to class every day even though she was only scheduled for twice a week.
Both Emma and her younger sister dance and they needed to find a studio that would be the best fit for their personal goals. They joined Central Florida Dance Center three years ago even though they lived an hour away. Her mom drove two hours a day, five to six days a week. She then waited at the studio for hours for the girls to finish and then drove them home, just so they could dance at Central Florida where they are now. Emma and her sister did pretty much everything in their car for two years - homework, eating dinner, planning their schedules for each week. They finally moved last summer just so they could be closer to their studio. They are now 10 minutes away from the studio! Emma says she owes so much to her parents. She is able to do something she loves and her Emma in Blackparents always find a way to make sure that she is able to do the extra things she needs to do like conventions and master classes so she can improve and learn.

Emma says it is too hard to pick just one moment that is her happiest moment when dancing because she has had such great opportunities to grow as a dancer. Just recently she was asked by Christoper Amadee to participate this summer in a piece he is working on for a choreography competition. She has also had the honor of dancing in some amazing group dances choreographed by Jakob Karr, Grace Buckley and Carly Gallup.
One of Emma’s goals is to attend Dancerpalooze in California. This year she and her sister Anna won scholarships to attend and they are both very excited to go!

Emma’s reports her experience buying from Bdancewear was great! Her mom wanted to make Emma’s solo costume this year but they couldn't find any briefs that she liked. They had ordered from two other companies but ended up returning both the items they ordered because the fit was off. She was worried they wouldn’t be able to find anything she liked. They she found Bdancewear’s company site online and ordered our high waisted briefs. She absolutely loves how they fit. They are perfect for dancers and she really loves how they are easy to customize. She says that Bdancewear Flexible Emmahas so many options and colors available to choose from and our dance wear is really well made.

Emma’s academic goals are to be on the A honor roll while maintaining her dance schedule. She has been A/B honor roll all year but she would like to get her grades up to all A's. Her dance goals this year are to improve her technique and work on her abs.

Eventually Emma would love to be able to travel and choreograph for other studios or dancers. She loves the process of creating with music and seeing a piece brought to life through dance. She feels like the possibilities are endless and there are so many things that she can do with her future.
Emma credits her teachers, Nicole Carpenito and Lindsey Albright Anderson for her success and says she owes them a lot!! She believes that they have made her the dancer she is today and they push her every day to work harder and learn as much as she can.
